The German certification authority Bundsamt für Seeschiffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH) has granted type approval for the new Danelec Marine DM100 Simplified Voyage Data Recorder (S-VDR).
The BSH certification clears the way for ships to satisfy the IMO S-VDR carriage requirement with either a float-free or fixed memory capsule, including those sailing under flags that did not previously accept a fixed capsule.
The BSH type approval certifies that the Danelec DM100 S-VDR complies with IMO Resolution MSC.163(78) and IEC 61996-2 ed 2. Under the IMO carriage requirement, older non-passenger ships constructed prior to July 1, 2002, can be fitted with a type-approved S-VDR as an alternative to a full Voyage Data Recorder (VDR).
The Danelec DM100 S-VDR is based on the same architecture as the new-generation Danelec DM100 VDR, which was introduced to the market last year. It incorporates Danelec’s exclusive SoftWare Advanced Protection (SWAP) technology for fast and easy shipboard servicing and VDRConnect for selective remote access to the VDR from shoreside offices. The Danelec S-VDR and VDR share common parts and spares for easy service and repairs worldwide.
“The BSH type approval will make it easier for shipmanagers of all flag states to upgrade older S-VDRs to the solid, safe and simple Danelec S-VDR solution,” said Hans Ottosen, CEO of Danelec Marine.
