Global Eagle Entertainment has appointed Elcome International as sales and service representative in the Middle East for its EMC service line of maritime VSAT solutions.

GEE is a worldwide provider of end-to-end connectivity and media to the aviation, maritime and land mobility markets. Elcome is a diversified turnkey solutions provider of marine electronics, electrical and safety systems for the global maritime industry.

Elcome will employ its network of engineering and service facilities across the Middle East and South Asia to install, commission, provision and service EMC’s Ku-band VSAT systems. Elcome will also provide shipboard service and satellite airtime plans.

Elcome and EMC are currently working under a fleetwide VSAT contract for a major tanker operator. The contract includes global voice, data, managed internet and live TV programming for crew entertainment. Elcome is also serving as the primary customer interface for worldwide service for that operator.

“Elcome is one of the top service companies in the maritime industry and regularly achieves high internal rating scores as a trusted vendor with the companies they service,” said Gilles Gillesen, EMC’s senior vice president for commercial shipping. “Elcome’s impressive service operation includes branch offices from Singapore to Suez, and the company’s reach with flyaway service is truly global.”

“VSAT sales, service, support and airtime provision is a rapidly growing part of our marine business,” said Jimmy Grewal, executive director of Elcome International. “We welcome this new relationship with one of the leaders in global VSAT connectivity and content and look forward to working closely together to develop and support EMC’s growing marine VSAT business.”
